Pura Vida Featured
Chiswell, Portland, Dorset, UKAbout this holiday accommodation
Formerly the Royal Standard Inn at Underhill, Portland in Dorset – Pura Vida is an apartment with a style as quirky as some of the personalities that visited the apartment when it was a public bar. Even the name ‘Pura Vida’ lets you know it’s a happy place to stay! Everything here is based around the Costa Rican saying which translates directly to ‘pure life’. For Ticos, the term ‘Pura Vida’ is an expression of happiness, optimism, and living a full life.
Fitted with a modern flair and filled with collectables from travels far and wide, it is paired with original period fittings and stylish mood lighting. The property has its own private courtyard too. This provides off-road parking and a space to relax tucked away behind a sliding gate.
While there is also on road parking, it can be limited. We recommend visitors park at the nearby Masonic car park just 2 minutes walk away.
Situated across the way from Victoria Gardens which includes a play park, it’s also within walking distance of Chesil Beach and Hamm Beach, as well as Portland Marina. Handy for families, sailors and explorers alike!
This one bedroom apartment is very well designed. With a double bedroom and then a bedroom within the living area itself. Don’t worry though you can still relax here too! The bed in the lounge is also a full-size double fold-down bed. As well as having a neat and tidy kitchen, there is a also a walk-in wet room with shower.
Although located on the ground floor, there are a few steps in and out of the apartment. It is also suitable for children and is suitable for families to bring cots. There is also a cloakroom where you can store pushchairs too.
Recently refurbished it has everything you need for your staycation here on the island of Portland, Dorset!

A very homely stay. We felt right at home as soon as we arrived. Check in/out was so easy and Philippa was super flexible with timings. Her communication was also prompt and welcoming. Parking outside was a little awkward but very do-able. Lovely little courtyard (secure, which was great for the dog!). We were also left some lovely welcome packs for both us and the doggy! Very close to the beach and some great pubs – we would recommend the Cove Inn, stunning views of the waves and the sunset. We spent one day walking to Portland Bill which we would recommend and another day in Weymouth. Despite the terrible weather we had, we had an amazing trip and we would highly recommend staying at this lovely little house. Thank you so much – it was a much needed break away from the hustle and bustle of home.
