Insurance recommendations for guests and owners are changing

At Osprey Holiday Cottages, we always strive to keep things simple, transparent, and helpful for both our valued property owners and our lovely guests.  So we wanted to share a quick update about how we handle insurance recommendations.

What’s changing?

Due to changes in insurance regulations, we are no longer able to ‘actively recommend’ or refer you to specific insurance providers — whether that’s for property owners looking to insure their holiday cottages, or guests seeking travel insurance for their stay.  These rules are put in place by the Financial Conduct Authority, also known as the FCA, and are there to protect owners and guests alike.

Why did it change?

The rules around offering or promoting insurance have become more stringent, and to stay fully compliant with current regulations, we’ve taken the decision to step back from making specific endorsements.  We want to be absolutely clear and fair in all our dealings, and this step helps ensure that.

How can we help you with finding insurance instead?

While we won’t be making direct recommendations, we can still provide a general list of insurance providers who offer relevant services.  This list is for reference only and doesn’t form part of a recommendation or referral — it’s up to you to choose the provider and policy that best suits your needs, in the same way you might choose car insurance.

If you’re looking for insurance — whether for your holiday let or your upcoming trip — you’ll still have options, but we encourage you to do your own research, compare policies, and make sure the cover is right for you.

If you have any queries about this change or as an owner need help finding providers or discussing your concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.  We’re always here to help however we can (just without stepping into the insurance advisor role!).
